"content": "
Congrats to all the winners but a few things need to be addressed. I know this is the first Kaggle Essay Competition (of many hopefully) but the grading seemed a bit off and many improvements could have been made.
\n
One improvement that could have been made when grading essays is to make sure that the essays are #1 talking about innovations and #2 the innovations talked about are the ones that occurred over the past two years.
\n
Something else that seemed off was that the graders might not have checked to make sure they were looking at the version that was submitted and not the latest version (because edits were allowed after the competition ended). I say this because one of the high scorers updated their essay after it was due and it probably changed the score.
\n
Another point is that the essay was supposed to make sense to non-technical people. I felt like some essays did not follow this as lots of jargon was thrown around. Most non-technical people understand what a model is and they might know some architectures like the Transformer but past that, everything else needs to be explained.
\n
It would also have been helpful if the rubric for each essay was released so that we could understand our placement.
\n
Overall, I hope that there will be more essay competitions and I hope that they improve the grading and that the rubrics are released. The main improvement that needs to be made is the rubric needs to be followed all the time when grading.
",

I also think the final results seemed to have missed the mark, certain aspects of the rules/prompt ended up not being super important. I wrote my essay for a non-technical and technical audience but it seems like that also wasn't as important. Crazy about the essay edits past the deadline too! Thanks for pointing that out.
",
