Welcome to the BCI Initiative & ALVI Labs Challenge!

The BCI Initiative has partnered with ALVI Labs to bring you a unique opportunity to develop machine learning models that could one day power robotic prosthetic hands. Over a period of four weeks, participants from around the world will tackle this challenge, showcasing their skills and innovative solutions.

In this challenge, you will analyze electromyography (EMG) data from both healthy and amputee subjects, and your goal is to build a machine learning model that can predict the hand pose (the angle at which each joint is bent) from the muscle activation. This is the kind of model that can, one day, empower those living with upper limb amputations by allowing them to control robotic prosthetic hands!

The challenge is open to anyone, regardless of their geographic location or background. As the competition's start date approaches, we will be organizing online workshops to help you familiarize yourself with the data and we will share some code and baseline models to use as references.

Winning teams will have the chance to collaborate with ALVI Labs in scientific research and publish the results of their work, contributing to advancements in rehabilitation and prosthesis control technologies.
