While our sport is making advancements quickly in terms of collecting more usable equine health information, in 2019 there was not a comprehensive data source of more granular measure, such as heart rate or stride length.
\n
There are descriptive studies such as this: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0167587716306535 and comprehensive internal reports such as this: https://www.gaming.ny.gov/pdf/NY%20Task%20Force%20on%20Racehorse%20Health%20and%20Safety.pdf
\n
The New York State Gaming Commission even has a database of breakdowns and racing incidents that can be accessed here: https://breakdown.gaming.ny.gov/searchbreakdown.byyear.php
\n
However, it is our strong belief that it will be difficult for competitors to jump right to injury prevention without answering simpler questions much like we suggest in the Evaluation section.
