# Dataset Description

This dataset contains labeled images of chessboard positions paired with metadata about the corresponding chess openings, designed for an image classification task of chess openings by ECO volume categories.

## Files and Folders

- `train_images/` — Folder containing training images of chessboard positions.  
- `test_images/` — Folder containing testing images of chessboard positions.  
- `train.csv` — CSV file with training metadata.  
- `test.csv` — CSV file with testing metadata.

## Columns in CSV files

| Column Name    | Description                                                                                     |
|----------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `image_id`     | Unique identifier for each chessboard image file (corresponds to filenames in image folders).    |
| `eco_volume`   | ECO volume category (A, B, C, D, or E) indicating the broad family of the chess opening.        |
| `opening_name` | Full name of the chess opening corresponding to the position in the image.                      |
| `pgn`          | Portable Game Notation string representing the moves that led to the board position shown.       |
