ESA's European Space Operations Centre initiated a project to outline a clear direction for data strategy and AI implementation in mission operations. This initiative led to the creation of the [DataX] (https://iafastro.directory/iac/paper/id/89097/summary/) [1] strategy, developed to improve the scalability of advanced analytics applications, including AI systems and to increase the value of data within the organization. One of the key elements of developing an AI system is the **security of AI applications** addressed within the [**Assurance for Space Domain AI Applications** project](https://assurance-ai.space-codev.org/) and its [Catalogue of Security Risks for AI Applications in Space](https://zenodo.org/records/14762574). This competition is based on a real-life AI security threat identified within the project - **data leakage** [2].

## Story

There was unauthorized access reported in your company's network. Your job is to investigate the incident and check if the data from the recent important discovery is safe. No file transfer has been observed, but some of the latest PDFs of the ["The Messenger" magazine from the ESO webpage](https://messenger.eso.org/) were irreversibly replaced on servers with their slightly modified versions. You are aware of [steganography](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography) and different [techniques](https://www.mdpi.com/2227-7390/9/21/2829) of hiding information in text, so you suspect that some sensitive data may have been hidden in the articles from the magazine. Your next task is to check this hypothesis and determine what information was breached.

## Task description

Find the secret message hidden in the changed "The Messenger" files. Both contaminated files and messages are text. We provide changed PDF files in [Discussion tab](https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/detect-leaking-data/discussion).

You are given three texts, with three messages hidden, one in each. The difficulty increases with increasing numbers in the file names.

The hackathon can be solved in teams of up to 3 members. You have a maximum of 10 submissions per team, so use them wisely.

### Data

Data contains "The Messenger" articles intentionally modified using LLMs, so they are not the same as the ones available online, and you do not have access to their versions from before the attack.

More details regarding the data are provided in the [Data tab](https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/detect-leaking-data/data).

### Code
The competition offers a [notebook](https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/detect-leaking-data/code) to show how to read PDF files and create a sample solution format.
