## **Overview**

### **Description**

In the world of gemstones, pricing is both an art and a science. While experts have traditionally relied on the "4 Cs"—Carat, Cut, Color, and Clarity—to determine value, the interplay between these attributes and the final market price is often complex and non-linear.

The goal of this competition is to build a robust regression model that can accurately predict the price of a diamond based on its physical characteristics and quality metrics. Using a classic dataset of nearly 54,000 diamonds, you are challenged to uncover the underlying patterns that drive gemstone valuation. Can your model outperform traditional appraisal methods and reach a "flawless" score?

### **Evaluation**

Submissions are evaluated on the **Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE)**. RMSE is a standard metric for regression tasks that penalizes larger errors more heavily, ensuring that your model is consistent across all price points.

The formula for RMSE is:

$$\text{RMSE} = \sqrt{\frac{1}{n} \sum_{i=1}^{n} (y_i - \hat{y}_i)^2}$$

Where:

* $n$ is the number of diamonds in the test set.
* $y_i$ is the actual price of the diamond.
* $\hat{y}_i$ is your predicted price.

### **Dataset Context**

This dataset contains the prices and attributes of approximately 54,000 diamonds. The attributes include:

* **Price:** Price in US dollars (the target variable).
* **Carat:** Weight of the diamond (0.2–5.01).
* **Cut:** Quality of the cut (Fair, Good, Very Good, Premium, Ideal).
* **Color:** Diamond color, from J (worst) to D (best).
* **Clarity:** A measurement of how clear the diamond is (I1 (worst), SI2, SI1, VS2, VS1, VVS2, VVS1, IF (best)).
* **x, y, z:** Length, width, and depth in mm.
* **Depth:** Total depth percentage = z / mean(x, y).
* **Table:** Width of the top of the diamond relative to the widest point.

### **Submission Format**

For each ID in the test set, you must predict a value for the `price` variable. Your submission should be a CSV file with a header and the following format:

```csv
id,price
1,326.5
2,450.0
3,1050.25
...
```
