As new machine learning techniques emerge, MNIST remains a reliable resource for researchers and learners alike.

\nThe original black and white images were normalized to fit into a 28x28 pixel bounding box and anti-aliased, which introduced grayscale levels. The original MNIST database contains 60,000 training images and 10,000 testing images, but in this competition we are given 42,000 training images (70%) and 18,000 testing images (30%).

\nThe state-of-the-art techniques to approach any Image Classification problem typically rely on Convolutional Neural Networks. This kind of architecture are really good at extracting patterns from images. However, since the MNIST is a simple problem, in this notebook we will aplly simple Machine Learning Algorithms (and we will get a decent accuracy!).

\nFirst, we will perform a Principal Component Analysis to reduce the dimension of the data (from 784 pixel values to 10 principal components).
