Hi and welcome to the Corporación Favorita Grocery Sales Forecasting Challenge! We are very excited about the competition and the great activity this first five days. We tried our best to make this data set more challenging than what had been done before in other sales forecasting competitions. So we made it larger, included all types of products from grocery and general merchandise with high, medium and low sales levels. We even included new product introductions for which we don’t have any historical data. We also added a very exhaustive data set of holidays and events that affect supermarket sales, this includes everything from Christmas to the World Soccer Cup in Brasil, from Black Friday to a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. We also included information about items and their categories and geographical information about stores. Finally, Ecuador being an oil dependent country we even included the oil prices data set.

I'd like to use the competition data to showcase how the data could be visualized and even have predictions generated using my employer's data analysis and statistical toolsets.
\nThe results will be shared in a conference hosted by my employer. The intention is to show our customers how they could use our products, in a practical scenario, using the competition data. Would you care to comment if you would consent to the data to be used in this way?
