"content": "
Clearly, Yolov5 is under GPL-v3 and it is not allowed in this competition. \nThe confused things is I've found another git repo (with MIT licence) that use most of the code from original yolov5 repo.\nMy question is: Does the new repo violate the licence? and can we modify and use the new repo for this competition (since it is under MIT).
",

      "content": "
I think yes (that this new repository is in violation of the original YoloV5 repo's licensing requirements), because the whole point of GPL-v3 is that it is viral. If you create a new work that is based off a GPL-v3 work, you must license it under GPL-v3.
\n\n
That is why the organizers are less concerned with BSD and Apache 2.0-based solutions. One can simply re-license it under MIT (with a few caveats) and call it a day. You just can't do it in GPL-v3. So if you base your model under https://github.com/ChargedMonk/Social-Distancing-using-YOLOv5, you still need to do it under GPL-v3.
",
