"content": "
Have people thought about how injuries can affect a team's performance in the tournament? I'm thinking if a team has a particularly great three-point shooter, and they get injured right before the tournament, the model would tend to be wrong if it is based on the regular season data. I'm not sure of a good data source for injuries though. Any thoughts are welcome!
",

      "content": "
You could look through the play-by-play data to try to figure it out. Track a player's time/performance up to the tournament and look for missing players. \nWhile not an injury, I remember when this happened:\nhttp://content.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,2057184,00.html\nBrandon Davies was the second leading scorer and top rebounder on BYU's team that was ranked 3rd in the nation at the time of his suspension and had Jimmer Fredette. Davies eventually played in the NBA for a little while which speaks to his talent level. That team was given a 3 seed and lost in OT to a 2 seed. Who knows how his suspension impacted the team. They were 27-2 before his suspension but 5-3 afterward.
",

Player injuries do play an important part in a team's performance especially when ⭐️ start players get injured.\nThis is not something that can be easily accounted for as injuries can take place during the tournament as well. It would be great if data relating to injuries is available, but as per my knowledge there isn't any data readily available.
\n\n
The tournament format (knockout) and unpredictability is what makes it 'March Madness'. 🐵
",
