"content": "
Prediction challenge(week 1)
\r\n
Presenters in Gun Control Court of Data + Zoran and David do NOT have to do this
\r\n
We will start Prediction Cup next week. This is just practice. In few days we will send you instructions how to create account at kaggle.com which has very nice way to manage prediction competitions. If all goes well we will manage our competitions till the end of the semester through kaggle.
\r\n
Attached are two files: One Moody101-traning.csv with 1000 of original Professor Moody data (Moody_training) and another, the MOODYT.csv data where all grades are filled with 'A' (which is of course not correct). The third file is not included, it has real grades and it will be used to calculate your prediction error.
\r\n
Your job is to predict the grades in the testing file, replacing A's with predicted grades and submit the resulting .csv file. This submission will be handled though kaggle not sakai (instructions coming). Kaggle will automatically calculate your prediction error. In this case, of Professor Moody data, it will be a fraction of grades which you have predicted incorrectly.
\r\n
We will have several prediction cup challenges after this one (this one will not count to the cup) and the winner will have the smaller overall prediction error. Everyone will get a rank.
\r\n
FOR THIS PREDICTION PRACTICE: No need to use any of the R classification/lm functions, since we want to discuss them first. But if you want to try...sure. In general, just look at what your patterns which you have discovered earlier in Prof Moody challenge and use this patterns to predict the grades...In other words it is a \"common sense\" prediction.
\r\n
Thus, the objective of this challenge: is to work on the \"best\" prediction file base on your earlier observations, create Kaggle account and submit your file there. Just stay tuned for the kaggle part.
\r\n
Data description:
\r\n
training data: training data is the knowledge that you know, you should use it to predict you testing data.
\r\n
testing data: data you know part of it, and you need to predict missing value in the testing data, in the challenge of this week. It is the students' grades.
\r\n
sample submission: the format you should submit, make sure the id is the same id in the testing data.
\r\n
Submission Requirement
\r\n
submit as sample submission and make sure the student id match with your prediction. When you submit, you can find you score and ranking based on part of your predictions but not the final score, for example, you need to predict 580 students grade, only 100 students will be taken into account for public ranking as you can see, you final score is based all predictions.
\r\n
You should also submit your final result(maybe you think the best one) on sakai before deadline in case that we want to check to submission details.
",
